Year 3
And so we start our 2013 breeding season. 2 pairs this year, both second generations as these mums are chicks from year 1 - Capri and Zephyr (Cirrus in the main pic’s children). They are in with their true loves!! Pair 1 - Capri and Zakumi. This is their 2nd year and they are old pros. We expect more big chicks from these two who like to feed their chicks! Pair 2 - Zephyr and...

Babies only!
Zakumi has gone back in the aviary today, and he was the last of our parents indoors. Sky went out weeks ago and Zachary last week as all of their chicks are eating on their own. Capri went out earlier this week as her last chick, Conifer, was perching and eating after developing really slowly the past few weeks. We would never usually leave the hen in so long, but she behaved so well with...

Anonymous asked: Hi there, my budgies first clutch have hatched and I have noticed that it seems they are developing slower than the chicks that I have seen online. My 7 day old chick doesnt have pin feathers coming through yet I can see that they have started but all they are really are little white bumps under the skin. At this point I was expecting to see more than that. What would you say?

Where are they now?
So if you followed us last year, you may be wondering how our little friends from last year are getting on.  I will add photos, once I have managed to take a few more!! Sky - Mum Sky was the star of the show last year, and managed to succesfully get 4 chicks to leave the nest.  She is back this year and decided herself to start a clutch while we were on holiday!  She has had several partners...

Here we go again!
So we got back from holiday to find that Sky had decided to start her own nest in the night box of the aviary.  We had breeding cages already set up so brought her in with one of her partners (she is a girl our Sky), Zachary.  We obviously can’t be sure who is the father of the first egg as she chose to Colony breed herself! Capri, one of our chicks from last year, was looking swollen and...

Chicks Update
So tomorrow Capri will be 12 weeks old (our oldest) and Zebra will be 11 weeks (the youngest). Three of the chicks moved into the aviary permanently yesterday (Capri, Zephyr and Zebra). They have been spending time in the aviary in their cage and on ‘day release’ flying in the aviary during days to get them used to it. Cloud is a different story. She has been ill on and off since my...

Last night Cloud was in a corner not moving or eating. We hand fed her Weetabix and Tomato and this is her recovered today! She is only on the bottom now because that is where I have put her food. I can not believe the turnaround. She has eaten loads, drunk lots to rehydrate and been singing to the other birds!
