Naughty Mummy!
Today we have been worried about Sky and the 2 biggest chicks as Sky seems to have started plucking out some down feathers. Searching online showed that occasionally a bit of down plucking was normal but my concern was the amount she removed in a few hours.
Forum advice said to leave the chicks with Sky as I was considering putting Oliver and the chicks inside. We are keeping an eye on them all...

Sadly Lucky is very poorly and I have taken him out of the nestbox to die indoors. He was too poorly and getting crushed under the others. He has internal bleeding and looks too small to have hatched. He was obviously only just strong enough to hatch but today has not been taking food from Sky.
Fly high little one and well done for trying in life.

BABY BUDGIE NO.5!!!
Budgie No.5 (Egg No.6) has hatched since 6am this morning when we last checked! Dom thinks that this baby looks particularly little, but it is being fed by Sky and kept warm by its brothers and sisters.
I cannot believe it has hatched! Obviously we need to keep an eye on this special little one, who Dom has already named ‘Lucky’!!
WatchChurping chicks in the nest box. You can hear slightly different tones to them with the difference in their ages.

Egg No.6 cont
So Egg No.6 did not hatch overnight, but when we checked this morning it is still alive and you can still see it pulsating.
It is possible that it is just taking a long time to hatch, or that it has been cracked for a while, but has survived because only the top part of the shell is damaged.
The fact it has survived 24 hours like this gives us some hope. Come on little one, out you pop today! ...
Egg No.6
Our last egg was due to hatch today and this morning there was a small chip out of it which would indicate it had started. On checking this evening the chick has made no progress but still has a heartbeat so we have left it in the nest box. We do not hold out a great deal of hope for this chick .along it as it has taken so long, but while it has a heartbeat there is hope.

Chick No. 4 - 23rd May
This morning (Monday 23rd) Chick No 4 hatched. We now know for sure that Sky has 3 of her own chicks, and have assumed that one of the first ones to hatch is Remus’.
This also helps us to see that the egg we found damaged should have hatched on 19th May, hence the large gap between Chicks No. 2 and No. 3. Eggs are laid every other day and hatch in the same order on alternate days.

Egg No.3
We knew that Egg No. 3 (the 3rd laid) had not hatched as there was such a big gap between our 2nd and 3rd hatchers, but today we found an egg moved to one side in the nest box and cold. On removing it we noticed that it had been pecked open slightly and inside was a partially formed chick that had died and dried up. This chick never made it to full-term so was not meant to be. We do not know...
Baby No. 3!
Baby number 3 has fully hatched this afternoon having started this morning when we checked on them. The size difference between its brothers and sisters is amazing!

Friday 13th - Sad News
Cirrus has spent a lot of time in the box with Sky the last few days. We has assumed that he was being very dedicated and having looked online it has seemed that this wasn’t unusual behaviour.
When Dom checked the box today Cirrus didn’t leave, and again we though he was being a good Daddy. He hasn’t looked ill or shown any signs that anything was wrong.
